Sturts Cairn , still used as a navigational landmark. The party was stuck at a water hole due to extreme heat for several months. To keep the men busy and as a navigational aid Sturt & Poole had the men trug 12km to the site, work all day and walk home.

Almerta station is south of Wilpena pound, and is a fantastic place to stay. Off grid and an area all to yourself This little spring is part of the water supply for the station. It is getting very low.

Almerta Station We were camped in Emu Valley next to Menzies creek. This is one of many creeks, apart from springs all dry.
